Ukrainian defense forces have begun making successful advances along the front using effective small-group infiltration tactics. This is very different from what the Russian Armed Forces are doing on the front. The details were described by well-known Russian propagandist Alexander Kharchenko. According to him, Ukrainian infantry is infiltrating the occupiers' rear in small groups, as stealthily and lightly as possible. The propagandist noted that the logistics system has transformed. It now relies primarily on air transport. And Ukraine is actively taking advantage of these opportunities, leveraging its advantage in UAVs. "Now our assault forces can unexpectedly encounter a heavy machine gun or a heavily-packed group with anti-tank weapons where previously only exhausted fighters with automatic weapons and at least ammo were stationed," wrote Z-blogger. He noted that Russia is currently unable to replicate this tactic because it lags far behind Ukraine in the production of heavy-duty copters and ground-based robotic systems. Russia has lost the military initiative in Ukraine as costs continue to mount. The Russian military has suffered 1.4 million battlefield casualties and as many as 450,000 deaths since its February 2022 full-scale invasion, according to new CSIS data. Russia’s territorial control in Ukraine shrank in the spring of 2026, with a net loss of roughly 400 square kilometers in April and May. In addition, Ukraine has orchestrated an increasingly successful campaign of short-, medium-, and long-range strikes against Russian military and economic targets using AI-enabled systems and a new paradigm for air power.
