Jackie Stewart won the 1969 Spanish Grand Prix at the Montjuïc circuit on May 4, 1969, finishing two laps ahead of second-place Bruce McLaren. The race was notorious for several accidents caused by failures of the high-mounted rear wings, leading to their ban in subsequent races. Race Summary The race, the second round of the 1969 Formula One season, was marked by high drama and significant safety concerns. Jochen Rindt started from pole position and led early on, but his Lotus suffered a rear wing failure on lap 19, causing a heavy crash into the wreckage of his teammate Graham Hill's car, who had suffered an identical failure eleven laps earlier. Both drivers survived, though Rindt sustained minor injuries. Chris Amon then inherited a significant lead in his Ferrari, but his engine failed on lap 56. This gifted the lead to Jackie Stewart, who drove a dominant race to win by a margin of two laps, a feat only achieved once more in F1 history (1995 Australian GP).
