Setting Up to Calculate Subscale Means in Sheets with IF Statements

Part of a series on preparing Google Forms survey data for analysis in Jamovi. This video provides a step-by-step guide to calculating subscale means in Google Sheets using the Adult Attachment Scale (Collins & Read, 1990) as an example, including how to identify items that require reverse scoring and use nested IF statements to convert raw responses into numerical values. The next step — calculating means and categorizing responses into attachment style categories using those means — is covered in the next video. When you are done cleaning your data, download your Google Sheet to a .CSV by going to File -- Download -- Comma Separated Values (.csv). DO NOT USE EXCEL. Then open your .CSV file in jamovi:    • Importing a CSV file into Jamovi  . You will create total scores in jamovi, unless you are categorizing data with subscale means and IF statements.
