Using GIS to Improve Planning Decisions
2011-05-06 Presenter: Dan McFarlane THIS WEBCAST AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING ONLY, NOT APPLICABLE FOR AICP CM CREDITS. GIS can be a valuable tool for providing information for planning decisions. In this first of a two-part series, we will look at the parcelization process in rural communities. Parcelization, or the division of land in smaller lots, is highlighted as a critical step in the transformation of rural communities from places that rely on the landscapes perennial yield of raw natural resources to places that packages and sell the landscape itself for consumption and development. Understanding the relative influences of landscape factors on land division can assist decision makers in allocating land protection resources.
