Then the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: ‘Set your house in order, for you will surely die and not live.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying, “Oh, Lord, remember how I have walked before You in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done what is right in Your sight.” Then Hezekiah wept bitterly. Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, saying, "Go and tell Hezekiah, 'Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your days, and I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.'" Then Isaiah said, "Let them bring a lump of figs and lay it on the boil, and it will recover." Then Hezekiah said, "What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?" "This shall be a sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will perform this word which He has spoken. Behold, I will bring back the shadow of the sun ten degrees, which has passed over the depths of Ahaz." And the sun returned ten degrees, according to the depths by which it had gone down. I said, "I shall not see the Lord, * the Lord, in the land of the living; I shall not see man any more * among those who dwell in the world. My dwelling is removed from its place and carried away from me, * like a shepherd's hut; I must cut off my life like a weaver; * He will cut me off from the warp. Lord, thus do they live, * and in all this is the life of my spirit; You will heal me, * You will give me life. Matthew 12:1-8 Reading from the Holy Gospel According to Matthew. At that time Jesus passed through the grain fields on the Sabbath. And His disciples were hungry and began to pluck the heads of grain and eat. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Behold, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath." He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? How he entered the house of God and ate the shewbread, which it was not lawful for him to eat, nor for those with him, but only for the priests? Or have you not read in the law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath, yet are innocent? But I say to you that here is One greater than the temple. If you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
