Despite the Sorrows is a Turkish social drama and crime series dubbed into Arabic with a Syrian dialect. It aired in Turkey on Samanyolu TV. The series stars Ergül Miray Şahin (Elif) and Batuhan Aydar (Aziz). The story revolves around Elif, a girl given to a poor family in a village to raise from birth. As she grows up, her father forces her into marriage and forbids her from studying in Istanbul. Elif dreams of attending university to become a doctor. She meets an officer named Aziz who helps her. On her wedding day, her mother, Ilham, helps her escape. She then meets Aziz and runs away with him to Istanbul. She goes to the house of Kudret, the officer whose address her mother gave her, only to discover that he is hostile towards women who wear headscarves. Elif faces numerous problems and learns that Ilham is not her real mother. She marries Aziz, and her suffering begins with Kudret and the officer's family, who disapprove of the marriage. She also discovers who her real family is. The real ones, and after a while he divorces her because of his marriage to the daughter of “Qudrat” “Siham” who retired, then she gives birth to a child and names him “Ibrahim” so “Siham” begins to try to get rid of her and her son, but she does not succeed and she dies, then “Qudrat” kills her mother “Rana” who is his sister, then he tries to kill her son “Ibrahim” but he does not succeed in that, then “Qudrat” takes revenge on her for the death of his daughter, so he takes her son from her and imprisons her husband, and she becomes a doctor to live for years without her son and husband, then she travels to Kenya, and when “Aziz” is released from prison, he follows her there and returns her son to her.
