IL CASO CONFORTOLA (ep.3)

The Himalayan Database, the official archive of Himalayan climbs in Nepal and Tibet, has debunked Marco Confortola's claim to have climbed all 14 Himalayan peaks above 8,000 meters. Managed by Billi Bierling, heir to the famous Elizabeth Hawley, the database has updated its data to 2025. The verifications are based on direct testimonies, official data from the Nepalese Ministry of Tourism, and reports from trekking agencies. These have excluded five Pakistani 8,000-meter peaks, such as Nanga Parbat, from the Italian mountaineer's resume. The most striking case is the 2009 ascent of Kangchenjunga, which became famous due to the only evidence Confortolo presented—a photo of an altimeter that marked the height roughly in line with the summit of the third-highest mountain in the world, now deemed invalid.
