Completed the doctoral program at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Served as an associate professor of modern Japanese history at a local public university in 2007, took a sick leave, and left in 2017. In 2020, he won the Kobayashi Hideo Prize for "Is It Wrong to Become Mentally Ill?", co-authored with Tamaki Saito.
