Review: Pinnock's Momentous, Monumental Archiv Legacy
This box of 100 CDs (well, 99 CDs and one DVD) offers one of the most imposing and successful collections of recordings on period instruments yet available. Pinnock is more than just another "historically informed" academic who also happened to make records. He is a tremendous musician and performer, and his delight in the music shines through this set. It's also smartly focused on music by Handel, Bach, Purcell, Vivaldi, Haydn and Mozart, alongside heaps of less familiar repertoire. In short, a terrific collection.
