Diablo has changed… for the worse. In this video, we analyse the evolution of Diablo, from a pure, raw horror game to the MMO-style of Diablo 4, to understand when the true essence of the series really died. ​Today we’re used to Diablo IV, with its builds, events and MMO-style vibe. But the story of Diablo began very differently. The first instalment was a horror action RPG: harsh, raw, unfiltered and unrestrained. It was a terrifying game that drew heavily on European Gothic architecture and macabre literature. ​But that all changed suddenly… AND IT WAS with the instalment that we all now consider a masterpiece: Diablo 2. ​Today I’ll explain why the real Diablo was a horror game, why we’ve forgotten that, what made Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 such brilliant video games in terms of game design, and how Diablo 3 and Diablo 4 have destroyed that dark vibe of Blizzard’s early instalments for good.
