In this video, a root extractor is used to linearize a 4-20mA quadratic flow signal. The quadratic flow scale occurs when an orifice plate, nozzle, or venturi tube is used as the primary element. The non-linearity of the flow signal makes it impossible to control the ratio and any constant percentage addition to the measured flow. With a simple algorithm, it is possible to perform this correction. The linearization procedure can occur in the transmitter or recorder, but for this, the devices must be microprocessor-based.
