Video Overview This lecture explores the concept of Electronic Design Automation or EDA and its essential role in the development of modern digital systems. As integrated circuits have grown from thousands to billions of transistors the design process has become far too complex for manual methods alone. We begin by examining this evolution using historical and modern examples such as the Intel 8086 and the Apple M2 Ultra processor to illustrate the increasing scale and complexity of chip design. The session introduces the full EDA toolchain that supports engineers throughout the digital design flow. From high level specification to post silicon validation we cover key stages like modeling simulation synthesis placement routing and verification. We explain how EDA tools automate and accelerate these processes while reducing human error and improving design efficiency.We also introduce widely used commercial and open source tools including Yosys OpenROAD OpenLANE EDA Playground and HDLBits to help students and professionals get hands on experience with real design flows. Whether you are working with FPGAs ASICs or system on chips understanding EDA is critical to turning HDL code into functioning hardware.
