The long-awaited live-action adaptation of the soul-stirring masterpiece that won the Japan Bookstore Award! "The cry of this 52-Hz whale is so high-pitched that other whales cannot hear it. That's why it's called the loneliest whale in the world." Carrying a wound, Takako moves from Tokyo to a house in a seaside town and meets a boy nicknamed "Mushi," who has been abused and lost his voice. Having been abused and exploited by her own family, Takako is unable to ignore the boy and begins living with him. Eventually, a single wish begins to grow in the boy, who had no dreams or future. Determined to make that wish come true, Takako recalls the irreplaceable days she spent with Ango, who she no longer lives with, and who heard her silent SOS and rescued her. She rises once again to hear the voice she was unable to hear back then. A cast of talented young actors, including Sugisaki Hana, Shison Jun, Miyazawa Hio, and Ono Karin, come together under the direction of master director Narushima Izuru, whose work explores the light and shadows of humanity. The film is based on the novel of the same name, which won the 2021 Booksellers' Award. The theme song, "In This Long Journey," was written by Saucy Dog, who deeply resonated with the work. Even for "the loneliest whales on Earth," there is surely someone who will listen to their voiceless cries. That voice will reach them someday. A love story has been completed, delivering a heartwarming ray of hope beyond our earnest desires.
