Global journalism seminar in collaboration with Saïd Business School

Join Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz in conversation with our Director of Journalism Programmes Mitali Mukherjee for a discussion that will include expert contributions from an international audience of working journalists. Professor Stiglitz was Chief Economist at the World Bank and the founder of the Initiative for Policy Dialogue. He is a strong advocate for transparency and accountability in the financial sector, and a vocal critic of financial journalism that contributes to the perpetuation of financial bubbles and crises. Following Joseph’s presentation, leading academic Amir Amel-Zadeh, Associate Professor of Accounting at Saïd Business School, will be explaining how the role and purpose of modern companies has been redefined, with an ever growing need to understand and demonstrate how they create (and destroy) value beyond financials. In a 30-minute lecture, he will be highlighting the work of the School’s Rethinking Performance Initiative which has established a global centre of bold discussions, contemporary thought and innovative ideas on how to operationalise purpose through holistic performance measures and valuation. Amir’s work has been cited across the business press, including the Financial Times, and in a variety of policy documents by the EU, Bank of International Settlements, IMF and the World Economic Forum.
