As part of this reorganization, "Heimat Fremde Heimat" (Homeland, Foreign Homeland) will air for the last time in its current format on December 22, 2024. Two new program formats will be launched next year. "Heimat Fremde Heimat" was the ORF's first intercultural television magazine. It first aired on April 2, 1989. Initially, the programs focused primarily on people from Turkey and the former Yugoslavia. Over time, the program broadened its scope to include reports on the concerns of Austrian ethnic groups and other minorities within the country. The minority affairs department gained widespread public attention following a letter bomb that detonated in its offices on December 3, 1993. Longtime director and presenter Silvana Meixner was seriously injured. However, she refused to be intimidated by right-wing extremist terrorism. Over the years, the minority affairs editorial team, under her leadership, dedicated itself to diversity and coexistence in the country.
