Excerpt from The South Bank Show’s 1979 episode on Rough Trade Records featuring The Raincoats in studio with engineer Adam Kidron, producer Mayo Thompson (of The Red Krayola), and Rough Trade founder Geoff Travis. “Fairytale in the Supermarket” was the A-side of The Raincoats’ first single released in April of that year and later included on CD reissues of the band’s eponymous first LP. Music written and performed by The Raincoats: Ana da Silva (guitar, vocals) Gina Birch (bass, vocals) Vicky Aspinall (violin, vocals) Palmolive (drums) Originally aired on ITV in the UK on a programme that also featured Stiff Little Fingers, Essential Logic, and The Normal. The version here is from Swedish TV and subtitled accordingly.
