Bulletin Insert – A Pastor’s Purpose – Part 2 Application of the Greatest Commandments & The Great Commission Sunday, Jun 28th, 2026 Speaker: Pastor Brian Stockert ________________________________________ Scripture Focus • “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” -Matthew 22:37-40 • “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” -Matthew 28:19 • “As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another…” -1 Peter 4:10 Purpose of Today’s Message To understand how the Greatest Commandments and the Great Commission shape the calling, responsibilities, and heart of a pastor -and how these truths guide our church family at Hope Crossing. ________________________________________ The Pastor’s Calling: Pastor – A shepherd (ra’ah), steward of God’s people and resources (Titus 1:7). Minister -A servant of God, equipped by Christ to build up the Church (Ephesians 4:11-13). ________________________________________ Loving God Fully (Matthew 22:38) Pastoral ministry models wholehearted devotion to God through: • Teaching & Preaching -Interpreting Scripture and demonstrating its importance in daily life. • Pastoral Counseling – Guiding believers toward healing, peace, and a deeper relationship with God. • Community Building –Encouraging unity, forgiveness, and mutual care. • Worship & Discipleship -Leading the church into spiritual growth and biblical understanding ________________________________________ Loving Our Neighbor (Matthew 22:39) Pastors help the church live out Christlike love by: • Teaching compassion, forgiveness, and practical outreach. • Providing pastoral care in times of need. • Developing ministries for youth, couples, families, seniors, and those with special needs. • Modeling Christlike love in daily life. ________________________________________ Making Disciples (Matthew 28:19) A pastor leads the church in fulfilling the Great Commission through: • Teaching, baptizing, and guiding new believers. • Mentoring spiritually mature disciples. • Sharing the Gospel inside and outside the church. • Praying for the lost and encouraging evangelism. • Fostering growth in salvations, baptisms, and discipleship. ________________________________________ A Pastor Is… • An assistant to the Great Shepherd (Psalm 23) • A preacher of the Gospel (Mark 1:1-15) • A teacher held to a higher standard (James 3:1) • A counselor (Proverbs 11:14) • An administrator (1 Corinthians 12:28) • An evangelist (2 Timothy 4:5) • A peacemaker (Matthew 5:9) • A disciple chosen by God (John 15:16) • A Christ follower (Ephesians 5:1-2) ________________________________________ Character of a Pastor Humble, obedient, trustworthy, repentant, courageous, attentive, caring, loving, urgent for the lost, and grounded in identity as a child of God. ________________________________________ Finding Ourselves “We find our purpose when we find ourselves.
