Connemarathon, Connemara, Co Galway, Ireland
Come with me as I tackle my first road marathon, on the same day as the London Marathon, but a very different race! The Connemarathon takes place in the Connemara National Park on Ireland's wild Atlantic west coast - an area described by Oscar Wilde as having, 'savage beauty'! See if you think he is right! Starting on the banks of Lough Inagh, the route goes north west past the Twelve Bens, nearly to Kylemore Abbey, before turning north-east. Passing Creagha and Lough Fee, the halfway point comes after a flat section along the banks of the magnificent Killary Fjord. Turning south-east at Leenaun, , the second half follows the R386 through Ashmount, Rinavore and Breenane, before tackling a 3km climb up to Maam. Finally we ran down past Lough Corrib to Maam Cross to a (hopefully) triumphant finish! Original music by www.gamimusic.com
