“Paris Sketches” - Homages for Band 1994 by Martin Ellerby

The Heidelberg Wind Ensemble presented this concert at St George's Anglican Church, East Ivanhoe 23 August 2025 Wind Symphony Music Heidelberg Wind Ensemble Best Community Music Concert Titled "European Connections" The Heidelberg Wind Ensemble was established in 2007 with the vision of giving opportunities for highly skilled musicians to play interesting and challenging works for the Wind Band, especially works written from the 20th & 21st Century. The HWE ethos is based on the Eastman Wind Ensemble, which is to assign one player per part, and play original wind band music. Founder of the Eastman Wind Ensemble, Frederick Fennell first formulated the general concept of the wind ensemble at Eastman in 1952. Under his leadership the group became known as the pioneering force in the symphonic wind band movement in the United States and abroad. In this spirit, the Heidelberg Wind Ensemble often commissions original works from Australian and International composers and presents numerous Australian and World première performances each year. The ensemble has approximately 40-45 players only, with essentially one player per part. The Wind Band requires high standard performers on all instruments.
