What is Happening to the Music Industry? | Artist in Residence: Living Creatively in the Middle
The music industry has changed so much in the last twenty years that only a handful of industry folks can survive ONLY with their industry work. When solid industry stalwarts question the validity of staying in the industry, it's time to do some serious thinking about what's wrong. Rick Beato: / @rickbeato The Rick Rubin Interview: • The Rick Rubin Interview This series hosts candid discussions between two professionals in the creative industry about making a living while serving their passion in the middle of the country. Gerard Estella moved from New York City to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In doing so, he has been able to create a vibrant and varied creative life—founding and running a marketing company, producing music for a variety of global bands as well as freelancing for Sony, composing movie scores, writing musicals, and performing nearly every week, all at the same time. Interviewed by Jason Alberty, local writer/teacher/performer, they discuss the difficulties and joys of making a vibrant and successful creative life without living on the coasts. - Artist in Residence: Living Creatively in the Middle is brought to you by Brucemore and their Artisan Studio Program, celebrating the arts and providing a home to cultivate and promote local talent.
