How to decide Beam Top Reinforcement detailing & curtailment of Rebars in ETABS

This structural design tutorial explains how we can detail a canterlever beam top reinforcement. Discusses what is a hanger bar The question is about the cantelever moment being more than the last spand end moment. Hence the steel requirement is more for the cantelever than the end span. The students doubt is, what to be done if the steel is more in one side of the cantelever - Should the rebar be bent in to column or be continuous? The bars should not be bent in to the columns as it will create congestion. The bars shall be continuous and higher of the steel shall be provided. The curtailment length in the inside span has to be a minimum of 0.25L as per SP 34. You can also fine tune and decide this curtailment length by exactly finding out the point of contraflexure and extend it. This is explained with ETABS as an example. How to decide the point of contraflexure seeing the Bending moment diagram is explained in this structural video. There are other points on back anchorage and stability aswell explained in this structural tutorial.
