1964: O golpe - DEBATE | Reportagem Especial
UNIVESP TV brought together three people who participated in the government of João Goulart (1961-1964), who was deposed by a civil-military coup that led Brazil to a 21-year dictatorship. Waldir Pires (then General Counsel of the Republic), Almino Affonso (then federal deputy and former minister under Goulart) and Eduardo Chuahy (then advisor to the Military Household) recalled the events that preceded the deposition until the president's exile in Uruguay. The topics discussed included the need for basic reforms, Goulart's confidence in the support of the military, the tense climate in the Legislature and the subsequent declaration of the vacancy of the presidency of the Republic by the president of the National Congress. The debate was held on February 7, 2014, at the São Paulo Cultural Center.
