AV-2804 Filmoteca [Reportaje a Perón] (parte I)

In this episode, Fernando Martín Peña and Fabio Manes present an interview with Juan Domingo Perón, conducted on September 3, 1973, by journalists Jacobo Timerman, Sergio Villarruel, and Roberto Maidana. The interview takes place as the Peronist leader prepares for the election of his third presidential term. The journalists speak with a relaxed Perón, who answers the proposed topics at length. In the first part, Perón analyzes the country's economic needs, expresses his preference for gradual reforms that would eventually lead to a revolution, refers to the urgency of forming an emergency government of national unity, emphasizes the need for Latin American unity and the region's role as a global reserve of raw materials, and comments on the forms of organization and political participation of young people. Then, in the second part of the interview, Perón elaborates on the future institutionalization of the Peronist movement, the role he attributes to the Armed Forces and the Church in this new democratic era, and Cuba's integration into the region. In response to another question about the reaction of certain sectors affected by his policies, he states: “To make a good omelet, you have to break several eggs.” After the tape ends, Peña and Manes share an archive of the official May Day ceremony of 1974, showing the beginning of the national broadcast, the singing of the National Anthem, and a portion of the March to Work performed by the Fanfare of the Mounted Grenadiers.
