22 Miles Through the Wild Highlands | Ardverikie Estate, Lochan na h-Earba & Loch Laggan MTB Adventure. Big Stoozer is back in the Scottish Highlands and this time he's joined by two legendary lads from Lancashire – brothers Andrew and Mark. Known throughout Lancashire for their trademark combat fatigues and their ability to enjoy a breakfast beer before setting off on an adventure, these boys brought a military-style atmosphere to the day. At times, Big Stoozer felt less like he was on a mountain biking trip and more like he was on a field exercise with the armed forces! This is Stage 1 of the adventure from Feagour To Lochan Na H Earba. Together, the trio tackle an incredible 22-mile cross-country journey through the spectacular landscapes of the Ardverikie Estate and Forest, one of the most beautiful and iconic areas in the Highlands of Scotland. Stage 2. One of the highlights of the ride is the breathtaking Lochan na h-Earba, a remote Highland gem nestled amongst towering mountains. This stunning location has featured in several film and television productions, including scenes from the hit TV series Outlander, as well as Monarch of the Glen and the film Mrs Brown. The loch's wild and untouched scenery makes it one of the most atmospheric locations in the Highlands. Sadly, this remarkable landscape is also at the centre of major change. Planning consent has been granted for the Earba Pumped Storage Hydro Project, a massive hydro-electric energy storage scheme. The project will use Loch Earba as a lower reservoir and is planned to become one of the largest pumped-storage hydro schemes in the United Kingdom, with a generating capacity of up to 1.8GW and around 40GWh of energy storage. The development will involve new dams, tunnels and major engineering works within this historic Highland landscape. Scotland's nationalist government have approved this plan to destroy a place of natural beauty in the Scottish Highlands. All in the name of so-called progress. Leaving Lochan na h-Earba behind, the adventure continues through the magnificent Ardverikie Estate. Situated on the shores of Loch Laggan, Ardverikie is famous for its rugged mountains, ancient forests, abundant wildlife and its starring role as Glenbogle in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen. The estate is surrounded by some of Scotland's finest scenery and is home to red deer, golden eagles, pine martens and red squirrels. The boys then enjoy some of the finest riding the Highlands has to offer, with flowing gravel tracks, natural singletrack, forest trails, waterfalls, remote glens and jaw-dropping mountain views around every corner. Another highlight is the trail alongside Loch Laggan. Famous for its beautiful sandy beaches and spectacular mountain backdrop, Loch Laggan offers some of the most stunning scenery in Scotland. When water levels drop, large stretches of white sand beach are exposed, creating a landscape that looks more Caribbean than Highland. As if the scenery wasn't enough, the ride takes a strange turn when the team discovers a creepy-looking tree deep within the forest. Even more alarming, Big Stoozer captures footage of a mysterious being that appears briefly before vanishing without a trace. Was it a trick of the light, a Highland legend, or something far stranger? You'll have to watch to decide for yourself!
