Located at an altitude of 1,200 meters, Kusatsu Onsen has long been a popular summer retreat. Founded in 1913 (Taisho Era), Kusatsu Hotel 1913 is a beautifully preserved wooden building that has been designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. It’s just a 7-minute walk from Yubatake, making it an ideal location for exploring the area. While the main building retains its traditional Taisho-era charm, the large public baths and dining halls were newly built in 2020, offering a perfect blend of history and comfort. Kusatsu Onsen is enjoyable day and night — try specialties like local egg soft serve and fried manjū during the day, then relax in the footbaths and enjoy the magical night-time illumination of Yubatake.
