🗣️Before you adjust your torsion bars, WATCH THIS‼️ - GM/Chevy HD Trucks

Adjusting (Tightening or cranking up) the torsion bars on a Chevy 2500HD raises the front ride height, effectively lifting or leveling the truck, but it makes the ride stiffer due to the reduced suspension travel (causing harshness/bottoming out), stresses ball joints, and makes it challenging to achieve the proper camber/caster front-end alignment that can effect the over all drivability of you truck and increase tire wear. You're essentially preloading the bar more, moving the suspension out of its designed operating range. Ride height measurements: • The measurements stated in this video are reflecting 2020+ GMC 2500HD's (non AT4X). • If you have a 2020+ Chevy 2500HD (non ZR2) the wheel arch is curved and will add 3/8" to the stated measurements. • For 2024+ GMC AT4X or Chevy ZR2 HD's that have a factory 2" lift, this info does apply still but we will have another video detailing these special GM applications. What Happens: • Ride Height Increases: Turning the adjuster bolt clockwise twists the torsion bar in return, pushing down on the lower control arm and raising the ride height of the front end. • Ride Gets Stiffer/Rougher: The increased ride height means less "droop" (downward travel), making bumps feel harsher as the suspension hits its limits sooner. • Suspension Binding: You push the suspension towards the end of its travel, potentially causing ball joints and control arms to bind. Ball Joints & Bushings Wear: Increased stress on front-end components, especially ball joints, accelerates wear. • Steering: Increased tie rod angles directly produce more twisting force on the steering center link, which then decreases the life of steering components. • Alignment is Off: Lifting changes wheel angles (camber, caster, toe), leading to poor handling and rapid, uneven tire wear. Key Considerations: *• Measure First:*Always measure before and after to track height changes. We suggest, from the top of the tire to the fender or the center hub to the fender lip. • Max Turns: Depending on the configuration of components used, always maintain at least 2” of droop travel. Anything less can severely compromise ride and durability. • Professional Alignment: Get an alignment immediately after adjusting. Upper Control Arms (UCAs): For significant lifts, aftermarket UCAs are often needed to correct geometry and allow proper suspension travel. The Truth About Lifting with Torsion Bars.
