🎵 J.S. Bach - SARABANDE from Lute Suite BWV 997

Roberto Bertero, at the organ of Turin’s Santuario della Consolata (Church of the Virgin of the Consolation), performs the Sarabande from Johann Sebastian Bach's lute suite, BWV 997, one of the most intense and contemplative pieces in Bach's lute repertoire. In this movement, the composer achieves a perfect balance between essential writing, expressive depth, and refined contrapuntal architecture, creating music of great contemplation and nobility. The suite, composed around 1740, has survived through various sources and is traditionally associated with the lute, despite presenting characteristics that have fueled debate about its original purpose. The present version for solo organ, by Roberto Bertero, fully preserves the texture and structure of the original writing. The transcription is limited to discreet enhancement of the harmonies, entrusted to the instrument's more delicate stops, without altering the clarity of Bach's lines. The result is a reading that maintains the intimacy and transparency of the page intact, while offering new timbral possibilities and highlighting the natural affinity between Bach's language and the voice of the organ. 💬 If you enjoyed this performance, please like the video and subscribe for more organ masterpieces!
