San Gabriel Mission: Godmother of Los Angeles
Mission San Gabriel Archangel is a Californian mission and historic landmark in the San Gabriel valley. Founded by Franciscan friers it was the forth of the Spanish missions founded in California. Today, Visitors can tour the church, museum and grounds. The adobe museum building was built in 1821 and was originally used for sleeping quarter and storage. Exhibits include mission relics, books, and religious artifacts. An arson fire destroyed the roof of the original church on July 11, 2020. Twenty-six months after the fire destroyed the roof and heavily damaged the more than 250 year old historical venue has restored. Replastered adobe walls, new paint, restored windows and a new redwood ceiling, the beloved San Gabriel Mission has reopened. Its beauty restore, the Mission is ready for visitors to gather some experience of what life was like at this historical location and the creation of California.
