Climbing each tree earns them thousands of baht. The reason for the high price is that each rambutan tree is 30-40 meters tall, with the tallest tree harvested this year reaching 80 meters. Skilled villagers are needed to expertly tie ropes and climb up. This season, traders hire people to harvest the rambutan in Ban Na Pod, Na Khao Sia Subdistrict, Na Yong District, Trang Province. They use pruning shears attached to a stick to cut small branches ready for harvest, avoiding cutting the base of the tree because it takes up to five years for the tree to regrow and produce fruit again. Mr. Kritsada Chansiew explained that the harvesting is done in teams of three people per tree: one person climbs and two wait at the base to harvest. Climbers receive 2,000-4,000 baht per tree, depending on the height. The high yield of the fruit means that some trees take hours to harvest, generating hundreds of thousands of baht in income per year. Those who wait to harvest receive 300-500 baht per tree, averaging 20,000-40,000 baht per year. Harvesting begins in June of this year and continues until July of next year. The long harvesting season is due to the fact that each tree bears fruit at different times. After harvesting, it becomes the responsibility of the members of the "Nong Saeng Village Community Enterprise for Processed Jujube Fruit" in Mueang Trang District to fill baskets with the jujubes and "thresh" or "puller" them, selecting only the jujubes that have been shelled. To process the jujube fruit into various products such as: traditional three-flavor jujube with seeds (40 baht per bag), seedless three-flavor jujube (150 baht per jar), traditional jujube jam (40 baht per bag), jujube jam mixed with Palian pepper (50 baht per bag), spicy jujube (40 baht per bag), jujube juice (10 baht per bottle), and jujube cookies (100 baht per jar).
