It is performed in all the sixteen sanskaras (sacraments) and at other religious performances as well. When Yajna or havan is performed, ghee and havan sāmagree are used as oblation. The havan sāmagree is made up of sandal wood, medicinal herbs and roots and food products. The act of putting the ghee and sāmagree into the fire after the chanting of mantras (sacred Mantras) is called āhuti (oblation) Every āhuti or offering is made with the chanting of the word “swāhā’ Yajna is not a worship to the visible fire. Agni is one of the names of God. It means all pervading, adorable and effulgent. Fire symbolizes radiance and heat. The flame of Yajna is a symbolic representation of victory of light over darkness, of knowledge over ignorance and prosperity over poverty. A prayer in the Upanishad says: Asato mā sad gamaya; Tamaso mā jyotir gamaya; Mriytor mā amritam gamaya. “O God, lead us from untruth to truth, from darkness to light and from death to immortality. (ii) Benefits of Yajna While performing Yajna we pray to God and chant Mantras in praise of Him These Mantras have lofty thoughts which describe the attributes and functions of God. The Mantras urge us to perform good deeds and make our lives nobler. Through Yajnas we get the opportunity of studying the Vedas and other scriptures and in this way the intellect and mind become pure. One great benefit from Yajna is that it purifies the air and the surrounding atmosphere Herbs and sweet smelling ingredients are used in the oblation They destroy the disease carrying germs and purify the air. The warm air of Yajna spreads throughout the home and drives out unpleasant air. It is in the nature of the fire to break up the ingredients of the samagri into atoms and spread them around and in the process destroys germs in its way. Yajna also helps to regulate rainfall and temperature, thereby minimising conditions of drought and reducing the risk of crop failure. The ghee and sāmagri offerings into the Havan Kund burn and break up into tiny particles. These are carried by the air in the form of vapour into the atmosphere. They rise high into the atmosphere where they are mixed with the cold air where condensation takes place to form clouds as the forerunner of rain. In the Bhagavata Gita (Chapter 3:14) it says: Annadbhavanti – “From food beings are born, from rain food is produced; from Yajna arises rain and Yajna is born of karma.” (iii) Meaning of Yajna The word Yajna is derived from the root yaj which has three meanings: 1. Prayer to God. 2. Unity. 3. Donation. Whenever these three are present in any action, it is termed Yajna. In the act of performing Havan, sacred verses (mantra) are recited in prayer. When Yajna is performed members of the family and others get together and after Yajna learned persons and charitable organisations are given donations. In this way all three meanings of Yajna become part of the procedure when Yajna (Havan) is performed. ===== Chapters / time Stamp 00:00 – Intro Music 00:08 – Achaman 01:03 – Ang Sparsh 01:50 – Ishwar Stuti aur Upasana 04:56 – Agni Hotram 05:47 – Samida-dhan 07:05 – Panch Ghritahuti 09:30 – Jala Sinchana 10:12 - Oblation of Ghee 10:49 – Pratah Kaal 11:23 – Sayan Kaal 12:01 – Pratah Sayam Ahuti 14:00 – Gayatri Mantra 14:17 - Purnahuti If this Havan Video brings blessings to you, please 👍 Like | 🔔 Subscribe | 🔄 Share 📩 For questions or pravachan requests: [email protected] #HavanForBeginners #Agnihotra #VedicPrayer #LearnSanskritMantras #AryaSamaj
