Operating signals can provide the ultimate level of realism for your model railroad giving it the look of the prototype you follow. And there are different signals to chose from and different ways to implement them. In this video I'll discuss the two most common systems used ion the United States since the early 20th century. I'll also talk about an optical detection system that I used to implement a pair of signals required to control traffic movement over a gantlet bridge on my Piedmont Southern railroad.
