Margaret Hamilton "Liaisons" Sondheim "A Little Night Music" Live "Wizard of Oz"
Margaret Hamilton, best remembered as the Wicked Witch of the West in "The Wizard of Oz", singing "Liaisons" from a live recording of the national tour of "A Little Night Music", in which she appeared with Jean Simmons and George Lee Andrews. I saw this at the Kennedy Center when I was a student nearby and she was not an aged Scandinavian courtesan but walked off with the show anyway (much to Simmons' displeasure during the curtain call). She also very sensibly refused to fall asleep after walking across the stage with her stick, but just walked off. Stritch recently said she wanted to top Gingold as the best Madame Armfeldt but she had Angela, Regina, and Margaret at least in front of her, and Glynis, Elizabeth, Sian and several others too. Cleaned by Tormented Artist Ink Studios (me).
