The modular student pavilion by Berlin architects Gustav Düsing and Max Hacke represents an innovative approach to university buildings. The project, honored with the Mies van der Rohe Award, emphasizes sustainability, flexibility, and the social function of space. This interview was created for the Best European Architecture exhibition, on display at CAMP from January 29 to March 9, 2025. The pavilion was designed as an open and variable space that supports the student community. Thanks to its decentralized approach and modular construction, it is easily adaptable to different environments and future needs. 🟢 Open and flexible space – the two-story pavilion with interconnected platforms and walkways supports the student community across disciplines. 🟢 Strategic location – a new campus landmark that integrates harmoniously into the main axis alongside historic buildings. 🟢 Decentralized approach – nine entrances and staircases seamlessly connect movement and utility zones without fixed barriers. 🟢 Modular construction – the load-bearing system is based on a 3 × 3 m square grid with uniform 10 × 10 cm steel elements. 🟢 Demountable and circular architecture – the hybrid wood and steel system allows for easy disassembly and the reuse of entire building components.
