This design maximizes the cargo carrying capacity of the vessel and situates the prime mover close to the propeller, minimizing equipment cost and problems posed from long shaft lines. An engine room and the associated machinery spaces are hazardous areas and even in the best-run vessels, great care must be taken to avoid accidents. As well as being a noisy, hot, and vibration affected workspace, engine and machinery layouts mean constricted passageways, stairs, obstructions and exposed pipes, cabling, and other hazards. In this video, I will be giving you a guided tour of the MAERSK Ship. All the merchant navy aspirants going to join the life at sea will benefit a lot from this video, since the general layout of engine room on Cargo ships is more or less the same.
