Today we're taking the wheel of a Saab 9000 2.3-liter 16-valve to finally understand whether this Swedish car truly deserved the reputation it's been given over the years as a clumsy car. Having often driven the Thema and its other siblings from the Tipo 4 project, I wanted to take a closer look at the real differences in chassis, ride, and, above all, safety. In this road test, we discuss how the engine performs, Saab's unique choice of rear axle, and how the Swedish build quality is still evident today, thirty years later. There's a lot of substance in this car, perhaps much more than our Italian counterparts of the time in terms of robustness and roadholding.
