A look at some of the more prominent historical buildings in Forbes town centre. One of the oldest of which is the Anglican Church and the Presbyterian Church, both finished in 1877, although it is said parts of the Vandenberg Hotel date back to the 1860s. Arguably the most majestic buildings in the town are the Post Office (1881) and the Town Hall (1891). Many of these buildings are situated around Victoria Park, where a Grecian Fountain was donated to the town by the mayor William Thomas in 1891. The soundtrack includes 2 versions of "The Streets of Forbes", the first sung by Stockman William Alexander and the 2nd, a classical guitar version by Ken Murray. https://www.aussietowns.com.au/town/f... Forbes is a remarkably elegant and substantial inland town. Famous for its connections with the bushranger, Ben Hall (he was killed and buried near the town), today it is an important rural service centre noted for its fine parks and gardens and its large and gracious public buildings. The rural economy in the district is based around a major cattle sale yards complex, beef and hay exports, wool, wheat, grain seed crops, oil seed crops, fruit and vegetables.
