Coogee Beach ft Omeo Wreck, Western Australia

I popped down to Coogee Beach as they said the weather was going to be good, but it was overcast, a good reason to come back down another day… I did get some good footage of the Omeo wreck, a steamship built back in 1858 and alter converted to a sailing ship. It had a busy life, helping lay telegraph cable to attach Australia to the rest of the world, but she also had a run of bad luck… Famously wrecking a lighthouse in Port Philip, nearly sunk while at anchor in Sydney by a steamer, ran aground and part-destroyed the jetty at Hamelin Bay. Redundant in 1905, she broke her moorings and beached in her final resting place, the sand at Coogee Beach. Part of an underwater trail also featuring a seal statue, a replica cannon, an old railway wheel, an anchor and a sea star sculpture.
