China’s Hidden Cliff Road Through Yongding River Canyon | Youzhou Cliff Highway 4K POV

This is a 72-minute real-time 4K 60FPS POV drive through the Youzhou Cliff Highway, a narrow mountain road hidden inside the Yongding River Canyon near the Beijing–Hebei border. The route is about 16 km long, starting from Youzhou Village and following the canyon road toward the Guanting Reservoir Dam area. Along the way, the drive passes through rough hand-cut rock tunnels, narrow single-lane sections, cliffside openings, old stone walls, railway bridges, and open canyon views above the Yongding River. Most of this road is extremely narrow. Around 80% of the route feels like a single-lane mountain road, with very limited room for passing oncoming vehicles. In some sections, careful timing and slow maneuvering are needed when two cars meet. There are also parts of the drive where the fast-moving Yongding River runs directly beside the road, with little or no guardrail between the vehicle and the river. This area is also known as Youzhou Canyon. The Yongding River cuts through the mountains here, creating one of the most distinctive canyon landscapes in North China. The road is not a typical tourist highway. In some sections, it feels more like an old mountain passage than a modern driving route, and standard navigation apps do not always recognize it clearly as a normal road. One of the most interesting features of this canyon is the way road, railway, river, and mountain all meet in the same narrow corridor. Across the valley, the Fengsha Railway can be seen running through tunnels and across bridges along the mountainside. The railway connects Beijing’s Fengtai area with Shacheng in Hebei and was opened in 1955. Built through difficult mountain terrain, the line became an important railway route through the Yongding River valley and remains one of the defining man-made features of this landscape. The road itself also carries a strong sense of history. Youzhou Village, Yanhecheng, old mountain routes, frontier villages, and defensive remains are scattered through this canyon area. Together, they show how this valley once served as a passage between the northern frontier and the capital region. The drive finally opens out toward the Guanting Reservoir Dam area. Completed in 1954, Guanting Reservoir was one of the major early water conservancy projects built after the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
