As you know, the official fuel for iron stoves is paraffin oil, but even though it's not as bad as kerosene, it still produces a lot of soot when you try to light a pot on fire. However, the 20%/30% IPA blend kerosene we introduced last time still produces soot if the flame is too strong. So, is it really safe to use alcohol, which is said to be prohibited due to its dangers, as fuel for an iron stove? In addition to the camper van we use with our family, I also have my own light van (a 1998 Acty) that I've converted for camping, and I always use an alcohol stove as a cooking stove inside. Spilling alcohol can be a big problem, but as long as I keep a fire extinguisher on hand, ensure adequate ventilation, and use it safely, I've never had any problems over the past 30 years. One thing to be aware of is that even if you think you've extinguished the fire, there may still be a flame deep inside. Also, while the fuel tank is full, there is no particular problem, but as it empties, air becomes able to get in, which can cause a small amount of alcohol to burn inside the tank, even if only for a few seconds.
