Sollten Linken-Politiker ihr Gehalt deckeln? – Ep. 354
Do members of parliament from the Left Party earn too much to continue representing workers' interests? The Left Party is currently debating internally a salary cap for all its members, which would limit their allowance to approximately €3,000 net or €5,500 gross. The €5,500 expense allowance, however, is presumably to remain untouched. In addition, members of parliament would receive €350 per month for each child or dependent relative requiring care. Socialist parties in other European countries have long had such salary limits. The majority of the population already believes that politicians earn too much. The Left Party could set a good example here. But what would that mean? Would it hinder the professionalization of politics? Would it prevent politicians from betraying the interests of workers? That is certainly debatable. Those who conform to the establishment do so not necessarily for the money, but out of conviction. More on this from Ole Nymoen and Wolfgang M. Schmitt in the new episode of "Prosperity for All." Literature/Sources: Sebastian Friedrich on the salary cap: https://www.ueberrechts.de/p/gehaltsd...
