A Stor Mo Chroi (Treasure of my Heart) - Roud 3076

#FolkMusic This is an Irish traditional song, written by Brian O’Higgins (Brian na Banban, 1882-1949). This song has me & my sinus infection singing, and my cittern, which makes a giant noise. This song has been sung by many great musicians and it follows an old folk tradition of setting lyrics to an earlier recognizable tune. The famous turn-of-the-century song O Danny Boy is another example of this practice, the words set to an older tune called The Londonderry Air from the 1850s. A Stor Mo Chroi is a song that has always felt oddly contemporary to me, and I love that it seems to remain a favorite of traditional music singers - this stunning version is just wonderful:    • Eamonn MacDonncha - (A stór mo chroí)   !
