Testing Two Stones I've Never Knapped Before | African Obsidian and Jasper

Every stone has its own character. In this video, I explore two materials I have never worked before: a piece of African obsidian and a small block of jasper. Without knowing exactly how either stone will behave, I being the process of testing, observing and working with them to see what they might become. The obsidian presents unexpected challenges from the very first strikes, raising questions about impurities, internal structure and how the material formed within the volcano. Despite its difficulties, it eventually reveals enough potential to create a small handaxe. The jasper proves more promising, though it too contains hidden cracks and surprises. Through a combination of percussion and pressure flaking, I gradually work the stone into a small barbed and tanged arrowhead. Sometimes flintknapping is less about controlling the material and more about learning from it. This was one of those sessions. đź”— Watch more flintknapping here:    • Flint Knapping - From First Flake to Maste...   đź”— Explore complete tool builds here:    • Complete Tools Builds - Start to Finish Â
