Gimmelwald sits high in the Bernese Alps, surrounded by dramatic peaks, green meadows, wooden chalets, and quiet mountain paths. It is a tiny car-free village where life feels simple, slow, and deeply connected to nature. Sonogno, on the other hand, is tucked away at the end of the Verzasca Valley in Ticino. With old stone houses, narrow cobblestone lanes, alpine forests, and clear mountain streams, it shows a completely different side of Switzerland — warmer, quieter, and full of southern charm. Together, these two villages reveal the peaceful beauty of Swiss village life: wooden chalets in the mountains, stone houses in the valley, flowers on windowsills, waterfalls, rivers, forests, and the kind of silence that is hard to find in busy cities. 🗺️ Where Are Gimmelwald and Sonogno? Gimmelwald is located in the Bernese Oberland, above the Lauterbrunnen Valley, close to Mürren and the Schilthorn area. It is car-free and can be reached by cable car, which makes the arrival feel like part of the experience. Sonogno sits at the very end of the Verzasca Valley, in the Italian-speaking Ticino region of Switzerland. The road to the village follows one of the most beautiful valleys in the country, passing rivers, stone bridges, forests, and mountain scenery. 🚠 How to Get to Gimmelwald Take a train to Lauterbrunnen, then continue by bus to Stechelberg. From there, take the cable car up to Gimmelwald. 🚗 How to Get to Sonogno By car, Sonogno is about a 40-minute drive from Locarno through the Verzasca Valley. By public transport, take a train to Locarno, then Bus 321 through the valley to Sonogno. 🏔️ Gimmelwald: A Car-Free Alpine Village Gimmelwald feels like a place hidden above the clouds.
