Synopsis: Under the codename "Joker," a ruthless blackmailer terrorizes London's underworld. As soon as a heist is committed, he demands ninety percent of the loot, threatening murder. Half a dozen crooks have already fallen victim to him. Sir John, Chief Inspector Higgins, and Superintendent Barbara Lane of Scotland Yard know only this: the mysterious stranger drives a black Jaguar, leaves a Jolly Joker card with his murder victims, and must have an intermediary who always informs him first of the crooks' robberies. While Higgins and Barbara search for the Joker, he has already found them... In their pursuit of the "Joker," Chief Inspector Higgins and Superintendent Barbara Lane stumble upon the Montmartre nightclub and its shady owner, Carpenter. The Montmartre is a meeting place for the underworld, including Tom Silkwood, nicknamed "the American," who is planning a major heist. Another lead points to Lady Smith, the director of the "Home of Peace" sanatorium. Her secretary, Josua Harras, was murdered because he apparently knew too much. And resident Theodor Goldman seems to know more than he's letting on. While searching for the black Jaguar, Chief Inspector Higgins comes across a dilapidated multi-story car park. Perhaps the old garage owner, Mr. Tanner, can help him...
