Melancholy of a Sapphire (Critical Role Fan Song)
(WARNING: SPOILERS IN DESCRIPTION) This one was really tricky to write, especially lyrically. Jester is definitely one of the most positive members of the M9, and my goal with this batch of songs is to get to the core of their deeper issues and emotions. So I did some deeper thinking about how things like Molly's death would have affected her. Seeing that the reason Molly and the others went after the Iron Shepherds in the first place was that she, Fjord, and Yasha got captured, she might have felt slightly responsible. I also remembered Laura mentioning on an episode of Talks that Jester is desperate to mature, so that also influenced the lyrics. And then there was the obvious: the Traveller's seeming absence and her inability to save Yasha. So, despite how hard it was, I really hope I could properly portray her state of mind. Lyrics: Am I just in the way? Would they be better off without me? Without my childish ways; Oh, am I out of place? Would he still be alive If I weren't so weak that day? Or would I still be here weeping at his grave? Oh Traveller, are you with me even now? Could the test of faith be any harder? Do you still care at all? Oh Traveller, it's your Sapphire again. I just wanna know where you've been Old friend. A friend lost yet again, And again my strength has faltered. Some wounds I cannot mend; The scars are cut too deep. Could this be the end Of my immaturity? And the start of a surrender to my fate? Oh Traveller, are you with me even now? Could the test of faith be any harder? Do you still care at all? Oh Traveller, it's your Sapphire again. I just wanna know where you've been Old friend. Twitter: / noseworthychase
