Election 2012 Petition Judgment

John Dramani Mahama Remains Validly Elected President After eight months of sitting, the Supreme Court presided over by Justice William Atuguba has ruled that, the First Respondent to the 2012 election petition, President John Dramani Mahama was validly elected. The 2012 Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo, his running mate, Dr Mahamadu Bawumiah and the National Chairman of the NPP, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey have challenged the validity of the declaration of President John Mahama as winner of last year's presidential election. They have prayed the Court to invalidate the declaration and nullify more than three million votes from more than ten thousand polling stations. They also want the Court to declare Nana Akufo-Addo the legitimate winner of the election. Giving the ruling Justice William Atuguba unanimously dismissed the claims relating to duplicate serial numbers, duplicate polling stations codes and unknown polling stations. The issue with the absence of presiding officer was dismissed by five Judges whiles the issues relating with over voting, voting without biometric verification, and absence of the signature of the presiding officer were all also dismissed with majority decision. Per the ruling, President John Dramani Mahama remains president of the country.
