Exploring ABANDONED Slaughterhouse Ruins (Greenfield, MA)
J-MASS INSTAGRAM: @jmassofficial The official theme song for my channel, “City of Steam”, was originally composed by my friend, Jesse Walsh! Check out the full song here on his YouTube channel: • [J-MASS THEME] City of Steam Deep in the woods of Greenfield, Massachusetts lay the ruins of a former slaughterhouse, now tagged with graffiti and showing signs of severe structural decay. Little is known about this site: neither the date it was built nor the date it was abandoned is known, and the name of the company that once operated there has been lost to time. All that we do know is that these old ruins were devastated by a fire just a few years ago, and have since been left to deteriorate as the dense foliage around it slowly takes over. While the property was likely a bustling farm and slaughterhouse operation at one time in history, it is today quiet and sparse, only marked by this three-story concrete shell of a building. A few other ruins are scattered around the site, including an old rusty car from the 1940s, a trestle bridge, and stone and concrete foundations. This is a mysterious abandoned building with a lost history, but its decrepit appearance deep in the woods fills explorers with intrigue. I only recently found out about this abandoned slaughterhouse, and I knew I had to go and check it out! Despite how difficult it was to research this site, due to the inherent lack of information surrounding it, I still found it to be one of the most intriguing abandoned spots I’ve visited this year so far! Joined by my friend and frequent collaborator Jesse, we traveled to Greenfield and embarked on a journey through the thick, dense forest, until we reached this isolated structure. It was in rough shape, especially following the recent fire, which was evident from the myriad of charred wood. Some of the floors and ceilings were caving in, and much of the equipment left behind was rusted beyond repair. Much of the structure was tagged with graffiti, and signs of heavy vandalism could be found everywhere. Still, Jesse and I had a blast exploring this abandoned property! Special shout-out to that old car we found, likely from the 1940s—that was such a cool find! 00:00 J-MASS Intro 00:41 Introduction to the Slaughterhouse 01:55 First Floor 10:15 Second Floor 14:54 Third Floor 22:05 Outside Ruins & Remnants 27:57 Old 1940s Car 30:10 Outro
