(TMEA All-State 2023-2024 #1) Paudert, Etude #88 from "The Blue Book"
Ernst Paudert, Etude #88 from "335 Selected Melodious Progressive Technical Studies for French Horn, Book 1" (aka. "The Blue Book") TMEA All-State 2023-2024 #1 This is a long one. There are a lot of notes to learn, but within each section of the etude there are similar patterns to execute. Spend time outside of the etude learning your scales and arpeggios so that you'll be set up for these more difficult jumps. The dotted figures should be practiced in a variety of rhythms and especially should be practiced slurred as well. Try to keep your embouchure as stable as possible as you move through the jumps, although you can see in the video that even I have trouble keeping it perfectly still. If your articulation is too forceful and punchy you may struggle with accuracy throughout. Take the staccatos with a grain of salt; the notes are short enough already.
