Hermeneutics 101 - Video 6 of 12

What does Paul mean when he says "under law"? Does Romans teach that believers are no longer accountable to God's commandments? Or is Paul addressing a different issue entirely? In this sixth lesson of *Reading Difficult Scriptures — Hermeneutics 101*, we continue our study of Romans by examining Paul's discussion of sin, condemnation, and the purpose of the Law. Using the principles of sound biblical interpretation, we carefully examine Paul's argument and the context in which these statements appear. In this study we examine: • Romans chapters 6–7 • What "under law" means • The relationship between sin and the Law • Why Paul says he would not have known sin except through the Law • Romans 7:7 • Romans 7:12 • Romans 7:22 • The difference between instruction and condemnation • The struggle between the flesh and the inward man • Context and consistency in Paul's writings Does Paul oppose the Law? Or does he distinguish between the Law itself and the condemnation that comes from violating it? This study seeks to answer those questions by allowing Paul to explain his own words. This is Video 6 of a 12-part series. "Test all things; hold fast what is good." (1 Thessalonians 5:21)
