In this video, I spent a day skiing at Suginohara in Myoko, Niigata, Japan, showing what spring skiing can look like here in a day-in-the-life style format. Spring skiing in Japan is a mix of changing conditions and unexpected rewards. You get quieter slopes, longer daylight hours, and often cheaper accommodation and lift tickets—but snow conditions become less consistent as the season progresses. In this case, we got lucky. March can still deliver proper winter days, and 2024 even saw one of the best late-season dumps on March 27 with deep snow and bluebird conditions. What to expect in March skiing: Early March: occasional powder and solid base Mid March: mixed conditions and transition snow Late March: true spring skiing conditions, with melting lower slopes and softer snow Every season is different, but that unpredictability is part of what makes spring skiing interesting.
